On Saturday, January 21st, 2017 the day after the U.S. presidential inauguration, thousands of women will gather in Washington D.C. to stand up for our rights, our safety, our health, our families and our communities. A coalition of diverse organizations and individuals will unite and march as a 'Women for Climate Justice' contingent during the Women's March on Washington to stand for the health of our Earth and our global communities. All India Women's Conference (AIWC) successfully completed all 20 programs as part of their work for the Women's Global Call for Climate Justice campaign re-grant partnership. These programs were conduced in different states of India and collected thousands of individual endorsements during their educational and awareness raising workshops. Prior to COP21, AIWC had conducted 6 programs with a focus on the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement. The remaining workshops focused on the outcome of the Paris Agreement, the assessment of the Women and Gender Constituency and implementation. Several of the AIWC branches that participated in the workshops have started allied activities aimed at mitigation and adaptation. They are also closely working with local governments for getting gender responsive policies implemented. From 30 November to 11 December, the Women and Gender Constituency will host a ‘Women’s Pavilion and Gender-Just Solutions Exhibition’ in the Climate Generations Area of COP21 in Le Bourget, Paris. Continue reading
